So you read my last post and want to get on the Intermittent Fasting bandwagon?
I know I said there’s no secret sauce, which I still stick by. However there is a useful little hack I learnt from a PT friend of mine a few years back that you can implement into your routine to kickstart your body into the Intermittent Fasting fat burning machine that it can be.
*Note: I didn’t invent this technique but I definitely used to during the first week or so to help me make the transition from grazer to faster.
The hack is – BUTTER COFFEE.
Yep, that’s right, butter and coffee together!
Let me explain. This technique was pioneered by Entrepreneur, Businessman and Bad-Ass Hiking Bio-Hacker extraordinaire Dave Asprey. The guy behind Bulletproof Coffee, The Bulletproof Diet and two-times New York Times best selling author.
He discovered the benefits in the mid-2000’s whilst trekking to Mount Kailish on a mission to learn meditation from the Buddhist pilgrims who are regularly found at the base of the mountain.
As temperatures dropped, Asprey found his water supply frozen and the fog from the altitude impacting his mental clarity.
At this point Asprey ventured into the hut of a local Tibetan woman who offered him a cup of a high fat delicious concoction consisting of a black fermented Chinese tea called Pu’erh, mixed with salt, toasted barley powder, milk curds and a big serving of yak butter. Within 5 minutes the fog that clouded Asprey’s mind began to lift and the benefits became apparent.
Asprey later went on to test and trial a range of different butters and ingredients ultimately creating multi-million dollar empire in the progress.
So now you know the history, let’s cut to the chase and get this implemented into your morning routine.
Butter Coffee Recipe:
- 1-2 Tablespoons Unsalted Butter or Coconut Oil
- 1-2 Teaspoons instant black coffee
- 1-2 Teaspoons MCT oil (Optional)
- 1 Cup Boiling Water
- 1/2 Cup Cold Water
*Alternatively, if you have a Nespresso machine or any kind of coffee maker, you can simply stir the butter and MCT oil into your hot fresh coffee as soon as it comes out of the machine to make this even easier!
- Place Butter, Water & MCT Oil into Blender/Nutri-Bullet
- Pour in 1 cup of boiling water + 1/2 cup cold water (add cold water to stop your blender exploding)
- Blend for 5-10 seconds
- Bang it in a mug and ENJOY!
